USDT-TRC20 (also known as USDT-TRON) is Tether's USDT stablecoin issued on the TRON blockchain under the TRC20 token standard. Tether began issuing USDT on the TRON blockchain in 2019, and it quickly became the most popular TRC20 token due to its extremely low transaction fees and fast confirmation times. A typical USDT-TRC20 transfer costs less than $0.01 and confirms in approximately 3 seconds, making it ideal for everyday payments, exchange deposits/withdrawals, remittances, and DeFi activities. USDT-TRC20 uses TRON addresses, which always begin with the letter 'T'. It is critically important not to confuse USDT-TRC20 with USDT-ERC20 (which runs on Ethereum). These are the same stablecoin but on completely different blockchains — sending USDT-TRC20 to an Ethereum address will result in permanent loss of funds. To send USDT-TRC20, you must have a small amount of TRX in the same wallet. TRX is consumed as bandwidth and energy fees when executing TRC20 transactions. Most major exchanges including Binance, OKX, and Bybit support USDT-TRC20 withdrawals and deposits.
USDT-TRC20 dominates exchange settlement because it is cheap, fast, and reliable. Most centralized exchange withdrawals default to the TRON network because of its low fees.
USDT-TRC20 and USDT-ERC20 represent the same stablecoin (Tether's USDT) but on different blockchains. TRC20 USDT fees are significantly lower than ERC20 USDT fees, which is why TRC20 is preferred for high-frequency transfers. Always check the network before sending.
